Your .NET Framework application, running on .NET 8 or 10
Send us the list of projects and we check it for free: what blocks the move to .NET 8 or 10, and what we would do about each item. Then we quote a fixed price for an agreed scope and move the application one project at a time, while it keeps running.
The free check commits you to nothing. Everything is agreed by email.
Who it is for
Companies and software vendors with an application that runs on .NET Framework and should run on .NET 8 or 10, without a team or the time to move it.
- ASP.NET MVC and Web API sites
- WCF clients and services
- Windows services and scheduled jobs
- WinForms and WPF desktop applications
- Class libraries shared between them
What we leave out
We do not rewrite a Web Forms UI in Blazor or another framework as part of the move. If the application needs that, the free check says so, and it is a separate agreement.
How long the work takes depends on the application and on what blocks it. The quote says how long it takes for yours.
How the service works
A free check
Send us the list of projects in the solution, the output of the .NET Upgrade Assistant or a short description of the application. We reply by email with what blocks the move (Web Forms, server-side WCF, Remoting, System.Web, AppDomains, packages with no version for .NET) and what we propose for each of them.
A fixed price
You get a fixed price for an agreed scope, by email. The scope names the projects that move, the tests we run and how we hand the changes over.
The work
We move the application one project at a time, so it keeps building and running during the work. We test each step and hand the changes over as pull requests or patches, for your team to review and release.
What we need from you
- For the free check: the list of projects, the Upgrade Assistant output or a description of the application. We do not need your code for it.
- For the work: a copy of the source code that builds, and answers by email when something in the code is unclear.
We work on a copy of the code. If a step needs anything else, such as a test database, the quote says so.
What you get
- The changes as pull requests or patches, project by project, ready for review.
- A note on every difference in behavior between .NET Framework and the new runtime that we found in your code.
- The list of packages we replaced, and why.
- Answers by email to questions about the changes.
Questions about the service
Do you need our source code?
Not for the free check. For the work, yes: a copy that builds. We use it only for this work.
Can we sign an NDA first?
Yes. Send it with your request.
The application hosts WCF services. Can they move?
The client side moves with few changes. For the service side, .NET 8 and 10 have no WCF host from Microsoft. The options are CoreWCF, which keeps most of the contracts, or a Web API or gRPC service with changes on the clients. The free check says which fits your services.
The application has Web Forms pages. What happens to them?
Web Forms does not run on .NET 8 or 10. The free check lists the pages and what replacing them would involve. The replacement itself is agreed separately, if you want it.
Can the application keep running on .NET Framework during the work?
Yes. We start with the libraries and move one project at a time, so the application builds and runs after every step.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the application and on what blocks it. The quote for your application says how long.
How do we pay?
The price, the scope and the payment are agreed by email before we start.
Is this related to your EWS library?
No. This is a separate service. If the application also talks to Exchange through EWS, we can handle that in the same work. The EWS migration service
